Sangareddy: Srikanth Nayak, Vice President of the Tribal Students Association, has appealed to the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) to drop its proposal to demolish the historic Sri Hathiram Babaji Mutt in Tirumala. He also urged the government to safeguard the mutt’s 16,000 acres of valuable assets from alleged land grabbers.
The mutt, established about 600 years ago by Sri Hathiram Babaji, a devotee of Sri Venkateswara Swami, holds immense historical and spiritual significance. Devotees from across the country, especially from the Banjara community, regularly visit the shrine to offer prayers.
Nayak said it was painful to see the mutt being neglected and attempts being made to demolish it instead of taking up repairs. He appealed to the Andhra Pradesh government to reconsider the move, pointing out that structures dating back to the era of Sri Krishnadevaraya were already being preserved.
He further added that the Banjara community is preparing to celebrate the ‘Barshi Utsav’ of Sri Hathiram Babaji in October and requested the government to ensure the event is conducted peacefully and on a grand scale without hindrances.
