Activists of Tudum Debba raise slogans demanding justice for the victim, in Aisfabad on Saturday
Adilabad: A daylong bandh call given by tribal rights organisation, Tudum Debba, in protest of an attempt to rape and murder a tribal woman from Jainoor mandal centre, passed off peacefully across erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday.
Commercial establishments remained closed in Utnoor, Echoda, Indervelli, Jainoor, Kerameri, Tiryani, Sirpur (U) mandals and Asifabad town and some other parts of the erstwhile Adilabad district, while TGRTC buses were confined to depots. Leaders of the organisation locked the Adilabad depot preventing buses from plying on the roads, causing inconvenience to passengers.
The activists and leaders of Tudum Debba demanded death penalty against the accused in the incident and warned that they would intensify the stir if the government did not respond to their demand. They also wanted the government to take action against those who migrated to tribal areas post 1970 and illegally got land titles.
Educational institutions also remained closed. Police forces were deployed in Utnoor, Echoda, Jainoor and Asifabad to prevent untoward incidents during the bandh.
