Nizamabad: Tension prevailed for some time after turmeric farmers staged a protest at the market yard in the town on Thursday over delays in procurement of their produce.
A ruckus broke out when farmers demanded that officials immediately commence procurement and entered into an argument with them. Raising slogans, they attempted to barge into the office and, in the melee, window panes of the market yard office were damaged. Police were immediately alerted and rushed to the spot, bringing the situation under control.
Farmers complained that they were unable to book slots on the National Agriculture Market (eNAM) website and alleged that officials were delaying procurement. However, officials stated that the eNAM website was being upgraded and that the glitches would be fixed within a day or two. They assured that offline procurement would be initiated if the glitches persisted, according to reports.
