Hyderabad: Ahead of New Year eve, in one of the biggest hauls involving cocaine in recent times, the Madhapur Special Operations Team busted a drug racket operating from Goa and nabbed three persons including two consumers, who procured cocaine for self-consumption late on Wednesday. Officials seized 183 gm cocaine, 44 Ecstasy tablets and other material worth Rs 26.2 lakh.
The arrested persons were identified as Mohd Ashraf Baig (37), a tutor and drug peddler from Tolichowki, along with two others – R Sravan Kumar (24) from Bachupally and G Charan Teja (27) from Kondapur. The main drug peddler Zude alias Chris from Nigeria is absconding.
Cyberabad Police Commissioner M Stephen Raveendra said Ashraf Baig, had been illegally procuring cocaine from Zude and other peddlers based in Goa and selling them in Hyderabad. “It was found that Ashraf Baig had procured huge quantity of cocaine from Zude in view of New Year’s eve celebrations. He planned to sell it to customers in parties and pubs here in Hyderabad,” he said.
The SOT, which had kept a close watch on drug peddling and peddlers in Cyberabad, raided Sravan Kumar’s flat at Gachibowli and caught him along with and Charan Teja, in possession of 2 gm cocaine. A case was booked against them at Raidurgam police station and further investigation was on.
“Based on the information provided by the duo, Ashraf, who is the main drug peddler based in the city was arrested from his house. A total of 181 gm cocaine was seized,” Raveendra said. As many as 44 Ecstasy tablets too were seized.
The trio, along with the seized drug was handed over to Raidurgam police for further action. Efforts were on to nab Zude and identify other operatives in the network, officials said.
