Chennai: Actor-politician Vijay and senior leaders in the TVK, making their maiden electoral debut in the April 23 Assembly election, will take on the ruling DMK in Chennai constituencies, with Vijay himself likely to seek election from Perambur, the party has said.
According to a source in the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam on Wednesday, the party would go solo in the ensuing poll and take on the DMK and the AIADMK-led NDA.
The party leaders were keen on seeking their electoral fortunes from Chennai, which is considered as the DMK’s fort, he said.
The ruling DMK had won all 16 Assembly constituencies in the city during the 2021 Assembly election, and the city has been returning DMK members for long.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin represents the Kolathur constituency, while his deputy and son Udhayanidhi Stalin was elected from the Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni constituency. Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Minister P K Sekar Babu represents the Harbour constituency, and Health Minister Ma Subramanian was elected from Saidapet, among the prominent leaders elected from the city’s constituencies.
The TVK has favoured Vijay to contest from Perambur, while the fledgling party’s general secretaries Bussy N Anand and Aadhav Arjuna are likely to contest from T Nagar and Villivakkam constituencies, respectively.
Former AIADMK leader J C D Prabhakar, who joined the TVK, is likely to be fielded from Thousand Lights.
The party is expected to announce the official list of candidates soon.
