Hyderabad: Family members of a 24-year-old priest Venkatesh Nagesh Kulkarni, a resident of Nanded, who was declared brain dead, have donated his organs to needy patients under State-run Jeevandan organ donation initiative.
The young priest tragically met with a road accident in the early hours of November 4 and was declared as brain dead on November 8. The surgeons retrieved two kidneys, liver, heart and two corneas (overall six organs) and allocated them to needy patients.
“The Jeevandan Programme remains dedicated to raising awareness and facilitating organ donation in Telangana. The Jeevandan Programme of Telangana has reached a significant milestone with 150 brain-dead donations recorded in this year, and today was the 151th donation,” newly appointed Nodal Officer (incharge), Jeevandan, Dr Sree Bhushan Raju said.
