Having failed with the bat in England's innings, Ben Stokes made matters worse by claiming a catch of Shubman Gill.

Hyderabad: The first day of the pink ball Test was full of action with India skittling out England for a low total in the decision match in Motera. However, there were a couple of decisions that were under radar during the match that garnered much interest.

Having failed with the bat in England’s innings, Ben Stokes made matters worse by claiming a catch of Shubman Gill. Gill edged Stuart Broad in the second over of Indian innings and Stokes claimed the catch at slips. The decision was referred to see whether it was a clean catch. However, after just the first replay, the third umpire turned the on-field decision down, giving it not out. However, Stokes laughed at the decision in disagreement. The subsequent videos showed that he grassed the catch but his reaction attracted huge criticism online.


“TV umpire was a bit too quick for my liking with that not out call considering that soft signal was out. But it was the right call. Enough evidence to over rule the on- field soft signal,” wrote Sanjay Manjrekar.

Meanwhile, a few fans criticised Stokes. “‘You cannot do that, Ben Stokes!” wrote Mumbai Indians’ official twitter handle.

“Ben Stokes literally picked that ball up from ground and then acted as if he caught it above his head. #INDvENG #INDvsENG,” wrote another user. “Ben Stokes ! Nice (Over)acting,” commented another.
