Hyderabad: Two Deputy Superintendent of Police-rank officials were killed while two other policemen, all belonging to Andhra Pradesh Police, were injured in a road accident at Choutuppal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri on Saturday morning.

According to the police, a police team comprising DSPs – M Chakradhara Rao and Shanta Rao, along with Additional Superintendent of Police – KVS Prasad and a head constable Narsing Rao, was on its way to Hyderabad on some work in a Scorpio car.

The accident took place at Khaitapuram in Yadadri district around 5 am when the policemen were on their way to Hyderabad from Vijayawada. When they reached Khaitapuram crossroads, the driver in order to avoid hitting a vehicle ahead rammed into the road divider, and the car jumped onto the other side of the road. A lorry coming in the opposite direction hit the car.

On information the Choutuppal police reached the spot and with great difficulty pulled the four people out of the car. All the four were shifted to hospital where doctors pronounced Chakradhara Rao and Shanta Rao dead.

Prasad and Narsing Rao were later shifted to a private hospital at LB Nagar in Hyderabad for better treatment. The police believe the accident occurred due to over speeding. The four people were reportedly on their way to meet their families who stay in Hyderabad.

The police are investigating. A team of police officials from Vijayawada reached the city to inquire into the incident. The Rachakonda police have registered a case and are investigating.
