Two arrested at University of Hyderabad for using AI to cheat in recruitment exam
Two candidates were arrested at the University of Hyderabad for using AI and concealed Bluetooth devices to cheat in a Junior Office Assistant recruitment exam. The malpractice was discovered when a hidden scanner beeped during the test.
Hyderabad: An unexpected beep from a concealed Bluetooth device played spoilsport in an otherwise meticulous malpractice effort using AI, for two candidates in a recruitment exam at the University of Hyderabad.
The Gachibowli police arrested two persons for allegedly using advanced AI technology tools for copying in the non-teaching job recruitment exam at the university.
According to the police, Anil (30) and Satish (31), both natives of Haryana, appeared for a recruitment exam conducted for the post of junior office assistant at the campus.
While the candidates were writing the exam, an invigilator in the hall observed a repeated beep and, on frisking Anil, found a Bluetooth device. A miniature scanner on the shirt button was said to be used to scan the question papers and using AI, answers were received in the Bluetooth device. The university officials upon checking other students in the hall, identified another candidate, Satish, also to be in possession of a scanner.
The two candidates were then handed over to the Gachibowli police. Based on a complaint filed by UoH Registrar Devesh Nigam, the Gachibowli police registered a case, arrested the accused, and remanded them.
