Adilabad: Two persons were arrested on charges of extortion and blackmailing the public by lodging complaints under SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, in Indervelli mandal centre on Friday.

Utnoor Inspector G Mogili, in a statement, said that Gavande Bipin Kumar alias Vipin from Gudihathnoor mandal and Mesram Anand Rao of Shanthinagar in Adilabad town were apprehended for allegedly extorting and blackmailing non-tribals using loopholes in the SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.

The two reportedly submitted a petition to ITDA-Utnoor to threaten one Adapa Chempath Rao for constructing a commercial complex in Indervelli mandal centre. They extracted Rs 2 lakh from Rao for withdrawing the petition. They also collected Rs 2 lakh from an owner of a school in Indervelli.

They were alleged to have demanded Rs 20 lakh from certain non-tribals threatening to lodge a complaint against them with the agency. A case was registered against them and investigations were taken up.
