Adilabad: Two persons were arrested for alleged illegal transportation of cattle at a toll plaza in Neradigonda mandal early on Sunday morning. Three cows were rescued, while police seized a minivan and a mobile phone from the two.

Police said that Sharukh Qureshi from Nirmal and Mohammad of Gudihathnoor were taken into custody on charges of shifting the cows without mandatory permissions from competent authorities and flouting norms. They were found to be transporting the animals by cramming them in the van and by tying their legs during special inspections conducted by police to prevent the transportation in view of Bakrid festival.

During interrogations, Sharukh and Mohammad admitted to buying the animals at Anantapur village in Bazarhathnoor mandal and were shifting them to Hyderabad. They told policemen that they had been indulging in the crime for quite a long time.

Police warned of stringent action against those who were involved in transportation of cattle in cruel ways. They stated that shifting of cows, bullocks and farm animals would not be tolerated. A round-the clock vigil was kept on the offenders to curb the menace. Echoda Inspector Ramesh and Neradigonda Sub-Inspector Imran were present.
