Asifabad DSP Acheshwar Rao said the accused were Athram Sungu and Purka Manikrao, residents of Thatimadhara village in Tiryani mandal. The deceased Athram Lacchu (41) was a farmer belonging to the same village.
During interrogation, Sungu confessed to eliminating Lacchu, suspecting that he was practicing sorcery, with the help of Manikaro. He admitted that he had nursed a grudge against the headman over some land disputes and for the death of his father 20 days back. He revealed that he hacked the farmer to death when the latter was in his agriculture field on Sunday night.
The two said that they initially sprinkled some pesticide on Lacchu and then attacked his neck with axes, resulting in his instantaneous death.
Based on a complaint lodged by Jangu Bai, the wife of the victim, a case was registered. Investigations were taken up.
