Hyderabad: The Rachakonda Special Operations Team and the Abdullapurmet arrested two persons and seized 1,010 kg of ganja and other material, all together worth over Rs 1.3 crore on Monday.
The suspects, Mohd Ramzan and Shashikant Gowtham Rao, were caught on the Outer Ring Road while they were transporting the substance from the agency area of Koraput district in Odisha to Uttar Pradesh. The other members of the gang- Mahadev, Vivek Singh and Imran- are absconding.
“They got partitions installed in the trucks to have a secret cabin for transporting ganja. The cabin is located very close to the driver’s cabin and is not visible to anyone unless it is inspected in detail. It also looks empty even when marijuana is loaded in it,” Rachakonda Commissioner Mahesh Bhagwat said.
Vivek Singh and Imran purchased marijuana for Rs 3,000 a kg from Mahadev and sold it in Uttar Pradesh at Rs 9,000 a kg.
Police said about a week ago, on the directions of Vivek Singh and Imran, Ramzan and Rao went to the agency area and got the marijuana. Based on a tip off, the truck was intercepted and they were caught.
