Hyderabad: Two associates of rowdy-sheeter and robber Umar Ansari, who had been absconding for the last three days, were taken into custody by the Hyderabad police.
The duo, along with rowdy-sheeter Umar Ansari, had snatched a mobile phone from a student at Esamia Bazaar on Saturday. When the police chased them, Umar Ansari tried to escape by running into a residential locality, while his two associates sped away in an autorickshaw.
The duo was nabbed from the city outskirts by the Task Force team of the Hyderabad police and shifted to an undisclosed location in the city.
According to sources, Ansari along with his two associates had formed a small gang and were moving around the city snatching mobile phones.
Ansari was staying on the streets after the owner of the house where he was living on rent locked the door after he failed to pay the rent. He was arranging money for his expenses by snatching mobile phones and committing small thefts, said the source.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) S Chaitanya Kumar and his personal security officer Murthy were injured when Ansari pushed them and escaped after snatching a mobile phone at Esamia Bazaar on Saturday evening. The DCP and his gunman chased him and later fired two rounds on him when he attempted to attack the police with a knife.
