Siddipet: Two police constables were killed after an unidentified vehicle knocked down their bike on the Gajwel by-pass road at Jaligama early on Sunday.

They were identified as Parandamulu (43) and Pusa Venkateshwarlu (42). While Parandamulu, a 2004 batch constable, was working at the Raipole police station, Venkateshwar, a 2007 batch constable, was working at Doulthabad police station. They were proceeding to ECIL to participate in a marathon when the unidentified vehicle hit their vehicle. The duo died on the spot as they sustained severe injuries.

Though both constables were wearing helmets, they could not be saved as the vehicle hit them at a very high speed. The police registered a case and shifted the bodies to the government hospital in Gajwel for postmortem. Efforts were on to identify the vehicle.

Both the constables had participated in multiple marathons across the State. They had completed many marathons and half marathons. It was while they were heading to participate in one such marathon that they met a tragic death on Sunday.

Former Minister T Harish Rao expressed shock over the death of constables. He sent condolence messages to their families. Rao also assured to support the bereaved family members. Commissioner of Police Dr B Anuradha, who expressed shock over the incident, said they would extend all possible support to the family members of the constables.
