Two-day chess tourney begins in Karimnagar

Karimnagar: A two-day under-15 chess competition started at Vaageswari Degree College here on Saturday. Genius Academy is organizing the event.
Karimnagar Mayor Y SunilRao inaugurated competitions by playing a game along with Genius Academy president Konkati Kanakaiah, tourney director KankatiAnup and Vaageswari degree college chairman VenugopalReddy. About 150 children from the erstwhileKarimnagar district including Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial and Rajanna-Sircilla districts took part in the event.
Top ten winners would be given Rs 11,000 cash prizes in all. First, second and third prize winners would be given Rs 3,000, Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000 cash respectively. Remaining amount would be given to to 4th to 10th winners.
Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor opined that chess plays a vital role in enhancing the knowledge of the people while other games develop physical fitness. It is possible to win the game if a person plays chess by applying the mind. Besides gaining knowledge, children would develop the capacity to tolerate stress in the future, he said and advised parents to encourage their children to play chess. He wished children who were participating in the event to win the prize by showing excellent performance.
