Mancherial: Two men drowned and three others managed to escape when a country-made boat capsized in Gollavagu, an irrigation project, in Bheemaram mandal centre on Sunday. Bodies were fished out. Bheemaram Sub-Inspector P Sanjeev said that the deceased were identified as Bonthala Ramesh (35), a daily earner and Eeraveni Rajabapu (30), a trolley driver from Bheemaram mandal headquarters. The three survivors also belong to Bheemaram mandal centre.
Ramesh and Rajabapu met a watery grave when the boat capsized at a deepest spot of the project allegedly due to overload when the five were casting nets in it for catching fish while three others managed to swim ashore. Both revenue and police officials launched a search operation by pressing expert divers and the rescue team of SCCL.
While the body of Ramesh was traced in the afternoon, Rajabapu’s body was brought by evening. Earlier, government whip and Chennur MLA Balka Suman instructed Mancherial RDO and Jaipur ACP Narender to intensify the search operation and to take steps for fishing out the bodies. He spoke to kin of the victims and assured them of all support to from the government. He advised fishermen to take precautions while fishing.
