Two from Gujarat held in Asifabad for digital arrest scam on WhatsApp
Cybercrime police in Kumram Bheem Asifabad arrested two men from Gujarat for extorting money through WhatsApp links by threatening digital arrests. The accused extracted Rs 1.66 lakh from one victim and admitted to collecting Rs 3.40 lakh in total
Kumram Bheem Asifabad: Two persons from Gujarat were arrested for allegedly carrying out digital arrests and extorting large sums of money from people by sending links on WhatsApp, on Monday. Police seized two mobile phones from their possession.
Police said that Pankaj Bhai and Sallu Sailesh from Gujarat were apprehended by the cybercrime police for extracting Rs 1.66 lakh from a resident of the town recently, by threatening to arrest him through a WhatsApp link. They confessed to extorting Rs 3.40 lakh in total by digitally arresting unsuspecting victims.
