Two held as inter-state ganja smuggling racket busted in Adilabad; 900 kg of ganja seized
This was the highest quantity of substance seized by police in erstwhile Adilabad district
Adilabad: Police busted an inter-state ganja smuggling racket and arrested two persons at an inter-state check-post at Laxmipur village in Talamadugu mandal on Wednesday.
They seized 292 bags containing 900 kilograms of banned ganja worth approximately Rs 2.25 crore, a container and two mobile phones from the accused persons. Six more people were absconding.
This was the highest quantity of substance seized by police in erstwhile Adilabad district.
Briefing details of the arrests, Superintendent of Police Gaush Alam said that Waseem alias Waseem Ansari, driver of the container and Arman, cleaner, both from Uttar Pradesh were apprehended while smuggling the ganja in a container, following a tip-off.
Ashish, kingpin from Odisha, Pandit belonging to Uttar Pradesh, Anshu Jain of Haridwar in Uttarakhand and Sonu Ansari, two other unknown persons, suspected to be residents of Buldhana and Dhule districts of Maharashtra were still at large.
During the course of investigations, Waseem confessed to committing the crime to earn money fater by forming a gang with Pandit, Anshu Jain and Sonu Ansari.
He admitted to transporting the contraband substance from Raipur, Sukma and Jagdalpur districts of Chhattisgarh to Pandit, Anshu Jain and Ansari several times.
The driver further committed to carrying the ganja from Malkangiri district of Odisha to Buldhana and Dhule districts of Maharashtra as per instructions of Ashish and Pandit. He revealed that the container was escorted by a car to smuggle the substance.
Gaush commended Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy, DCRB DSP B Surender Reddy, Adilabad Rural Inspector K Phanidhar, CCS Inspector Chandrashekhar, Jainath Inspector D Sainath, Sub-Inspectors Anjamma, Muzahid, Vishnuvardhan, staffers of Central Crime Station for nabbing the smugglers.
