Two held for faking robbery to swindle Rs. 17 lakh in Hyderabad
Two Malakpet residents were arrested for faking a robbery to mislead the police and steal Rs. 17 lakh. A chit fund employee and his friend staged an accident, but CCTV footage exposed the plot. The stolen cash was recovered
Hyderabad: Two persons who tried to mislead the police and swindle Rs. 17 lakh by cooking up a story of robbery were arrested by the Domalguda police on Thursday.
The arrested are Jethin Raj Yadav (21) and Souda Abhilash (18), both residents of Malakpet. According to the police, Raj has been working with a chit fund company located in the city for the last six months. On Wednesday, the manager sent Raj to Jubilee Hills asking him to collect money from one person, Pankaj.
After collecting the money, Raj started towards his office. However, he did not reach the office.
Raj later contacted his office and the police and informed them that some persons had stolen the cash bag when he met with an accident at Tank Bund. The police then checked the footage of the surveillance cameras and found that Raj was not carrying any bag when he met with the accident.
Investigations revealed that Raj, along with his associate Abhilash, had hatched a plan to steal the cash. On Wednesday, after collecting the cash, Raj handed over the amount to Abhilash. Later, when he met with the accident, he went to the hospital and later turned up at the police station and lodged a complaint stating that some persons had taken away the cash bag.
“The police verified the footage of the surveillance cameras and, on suspicion, interrogated Raj, who admitted to misleading the police. The cash was recovered from Raj and Abhilash,” said K Shilpavalli, DCP (Central).
The police arrested both persons and remanded them.
