Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) busted an interstate drug peddling racket being operated between Odisha and Maharashtra via Hyderabad and arrested two persons for drug peddling at the Secunderabad railway station on Friday.

Officials seized over 57 kg of marijuana worth Rs 28.5 lakh from them.

The arrested persons are Sushant Kumar Swain (23), a private employee from Odisha and Karan Iyappan Shetty (26), a cab driver from Maharashtra. The absconding suspect is Jeevan alias Ajay from Mumbai and native of Odisha.

According to the police, Jeevan, who earlier worked as a makeup assistant for TV artists in Mumbai developed habit of consuming marijuana and alcohol. Eventually, he met Sushanth and Karan and offered them good commission for helping him in drug peddling. While Jeevan procured marijuana from Berhampur in Odisha, Sushant and Karan smuggled it in trains and delivered to consumers in Dadar in Mumbai.

On March 13, all the three travelled to Berhampur and collected marijuana from a drug dealer. They packed it into 28 bundles and preserved them in three travel trolley suitcases. Later, in the evening, they boarded the Konark Express and seated in the general coach, concealing the suitcases under their seats.

They reached the Secunderabad railway station on Friday evening. While Jeevan escaped, others were nabbed and the drug was seized from them.
