Karimnagar: People living in the adjacent areas of an old building were asked to vacate, after the building caved in when workers were attempting to take up some repair works in Karkhanagadda locality on Thursday afternoon. Two workers who were trapped in the debris of the building were rescued by the municipal and disaster management staff.

Officials said the 40-year old building owned by Adhar Pasha, caved in as repairs were being taken up to install a new door frame. As the building began to sink into the ground, local peole called in police and muncipal authorities. The two workers who were rescued from the debris were rushed to a hospital for treatment of minor injuries. People living in adjacent houses were asked to evacuate.


Karimnagar Mayor Y Sunil Rao and local corporator Mondi Srilatha Chandrashekhar visited the spot. The Mayor asked town planning officials to remove the debris of the structure. Speaking on the occasion, Sunil Rao said the building sank into the ground as it was constructed with bricks some 40 years ago.
