Adilabad: Two inter-state cyber fraudsters from Madhya Pradesh were arrested for allegedly duping people under the pretext of offering work-from-home jobs. Police seized four mobile phones, a laptop, three bank passbooks, a keyboard, and a monitor from the duo.
Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan said the accused, Sourabh Raikwar and Rithik Sen, both residents of Tikamgarh district in Madhya Pradesh, were arrested for cheating unsuspecting victims by promising fake employment opportunities through remote means.
During interrogation, the two confessed to forming groups on WhatsApp and Telegram, through which they lured people with the promise of high daily returns. They gained victims’ trust by initially transferring small amounts ranging from Rs 150 to Rs 450.
The accused admitted to targeting nearly 900 individuals across the country each month. Their activities came to light when a victim from the region lodged a complaint after losing Rs 5.03 lakh to the fraudsters in phases.
A special police team was formed and subsequently apprehended the duo in Madhya Pradesh. They were brought to Adilabad and produced before a court.
Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy, Rural Inspector Phanidhar, SI Vishnuvardhan and other officers were part of the investigation team.
