Kothagudem: An area committee member and dalam member of the banned CPI (Maoist) surrendered before Kothagudem police here on Saturday.

Those who surrendered were identified as Kalimela area committee member (Andhra Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee-AOBSZC) Madavi Unga alias Nagesh of Palagudem gram panchayat and Madakam Sukki alias Roshini of Puvarthi village in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh.

Unga joined RPC Palagudem, Balala Sangham in 2015 and joined Puvarthi LOS in 2018. Later, he was transferred to the AOBSZC area in 2019 and worked there till 2023. He was promoted to the ACM position in January 2024. He carried a cash reward of Rs 4 lakh.

Sukki joined Puvarthi RPC Balala Sangham in 2018 and in June 2021 joined as a member of Puvarthi LOS. She has been working in the AOB cut-off area committee since 2021. Both naxals were involved in many acts of violence, informed Superintendent of Police B Rohith Raju.

Unga and Sukki left the Maoist party and surrendered before the police, realising that Maoists lost the tribal’s support, working with the aim of extortion, obstructing the development of the agency areas and terrorising the innocent tribal people, he said.

The SP appealed to Maoists who wanted to surrender and lead a normal life to contact their nearest police station or district officials, either through their family members or in person. The district police would ensure all kinds of rewards to them and rehabilitation offered by the government.
