Two Medak youths arrested for allegedly staging Maoist-support letters for social media attention

Medak police arrested two youths for allegedly planting letters supporting Maoists at Toopran Municipal office and police station to gain social media attention. Police said the duo had previously attempted a similar stunt during Chief Minister Revanth Reddy's visit.

Medak: The irrational urge to draw social media attention put two youngsters from Medak district behind bars. The Medak police, who solved the mystery behind the anonymous letter issued in the name of ATPH criticising the conviction of Maoists in Chhattisgarh at Toopran Municipal office and dropping a similar letter at Toopran police station, found that the two youths did this to get attention on social media.

They were identified as Banda Madhu (23) and Chinthakinda Sridhar (23), both residents of Nagulapally village. They were arrested at the Nagulapally bridge on Thursday night. Producing the accused before the media on Friday in Medak, SP DV Srinivas Rao said that the two youths had left a similar letter supporting the Maoists during Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s visit to Medak earlier this year.

Feeling that they did not get enough attention on social media, Rao said they again made an attempt to get the attention of people on social media. The letters were written in the name of an organisation, APTH, which actually did not exist. The duo also wrote the names of Alexander and ‘Ganapthai Anna’ on the banners. During the early hours of September 22, Madhu and Sridhar came to Toopran municipality, tied a red cloth to the gate of the civic body and pasted a letter in which they condemned the capital punishment awarded to 10 Maoists by an NIA court in Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh.

Later, they proceeded to Toopran police station. While wearing a mask and raincoat, Madhu entered the police station and dropped the same letter, wrapped in red cloth, on the table. He captured the same on his mobile phone and forwarded it to multiple persons. The investigation was carried out under the supervision of ASP Vikranth Kumar Singh and DSP Toopran J Narendar Goud. The SP appreciated the team that was involved in the investigation and presented them with rewards.
