Siddipet: Two MGNREGS workers died in a road accident as a speeding car hit them while they were walking to work at Pothareddypet in Akberpet-Bhumpally mandal on Monday morning.

They were identified as Devavva (45) and Ramavva (35). Rash and negligent driving was suspected to be the reason for the road mishap. Police took the driver of the car into custody.

Other MGNREGS workers and villagers staged a dharna blocking traffic, and demanded that stern action be taken against the driver. They also sought ex gratia for the victims’ families.

Later, police and other officials visited the site and convinced them to withdraw their protest, assuring them justice to the victims.
