Two minors drown in a pond in Mulugu

Two teenage brothers drowned in Mondikunta Pond at Ganeshlalpalli, Mulugu, while trying to save each other. The tragedy occurred during their visit for Rakhi celebrations.

Mulugu: Two minor students, who happened to be siblings, drowned in a pond at Ganeshlalpalli in Mulugu municipality in the district.

The deceased Maloth Vinay (15) and his brother Rajesh (14) studying Intermediate and SSC respectively came to Ganeshlalpalli along with their mother Swathi to celebrate Rakhi festival on Friday.

On Sunday evening, the two went near Mondikunta pond. When the younger one, Rajesh, accidentally fell into the pond and was drowning his brother, Vinay, attempted to rescue him. In the process, Vinay also fell into the water. Both drowned and lost their lives.

A boy who witnessed the incident alerted the villagers, who rushed to the spot and started searching for the kids. By the time they spotted the boys they both died. The incident caused a pall of gloom to descend on their native village Kamalapur of Mangapet mandal.
