Adilabad: Two money lenders were arrested for allegedly fleecing people from weaker sections by charging exorbitant rates of interest here on Sunday. Police seized 90 promissory notes worth Rs 2 crore and 366 blank cheque leaves from the accused.

SP Akhil Mahajan, in a statement, said that Arrolla Venkataramana and Arrolla Upender, both from Kumari village in Echoda mandal, were taken into custody for collecting high rates of interest from people belonging to SC and ST communities. The two were allegedly abusing borrowers by using caste names for delaying repayment of loans.

He advised victims to report such offences at the nearest police station. Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy, Inspectors Chandrashekhar and Naresh Kumar, and staff of the CCS were present.
