Hyderabad: For the first time, two BA (Honours) courses have been introduced in the State. The three-year courses – BA (Honours) Economics and BA (Honours) Political Science have been launched in Nizam College and University College for Women, Osmania University (OU), Koti, respectively, while both the courses have also been introduced in City College and Government Degree College for Women, Begumpet.
The two courses will have 60 seats each and they will be offered from this academic year i.e. 2021-22 itself. The admissions to the said two courses will be done through the Degree Online Services, Telangana (DOST) 2021.
The BA (Honours) courses were launched by Telangana State Planning Board vice-chairman B Vinod Kumar at University College for Women, OU here on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Vinod Kumar said at present these courses are being offered in cities like Delhi and now on they will be offered in Hyderabad as well. Especially in this competitive era, these courses will help students in making good careers. He advised officials concerned not to dilute the courses and confine them only to prestigious institutions.
Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE), Chairman, Prof R Limbadri said the two unique programmes were skills oriented. Apart from regular teaching staff, experts from the fields concerned would be roped in to teach the course curriculum.
Commissioner of Collegiate Education Navin Mittal said as these BA (Honours) courses were not offered earlier in Telangana, students from here used to go to other States like Delhi to pursue them.
Keeping this in view and as per suggestions of Vinod Kumar, these institutions were identified for introduction of the courses and Centre for Economic and Social Studies has designed the best course curriculum after going through curriculum in other States, Navin Mittal said. Admissions to these courses will be done through the DOST and accordingly, students will be given options, he added.
MLC Surabhi Vani Devi, OU Vice Chancellor, Prof D Ravinder, CESS director, Prof E Revathi, TSCHE vice-chairman, Prof V Venkata Ramana, and University College for Women, OU, principal, Prof M Vijjulatha among others participated in the event.
TSCHE extends DOST registration date
The Telangana State Council of Higher Education (TSCHE) on Tuesday extended the last date for registration for Degree Online Services, Telangana (DOST) 2021 third phase admissions up to September 23. However, the last date for web options in the DOST third phase remains as September 23.
The last date was extended as BA Honours courses were introduced in Nizam College, University College for Women, OU, City College and Government Degree College for Women, Begumpet.
The TS BIE/other Class XII passed out students, who have not registered earlier can now register on the DOST before the deadline and exercise web options on or before September 23 for seat allotment.
Students, who have registered on the DOST but not yet exercised web options, can exercise web options on or before September 23, TSCHE chairman and DOST 2021 convener Prof. R Limbadri said.
Candidates who have already exercised web options have been advised to visit the DOST website https://dost.cgg.gov.in/ updating their options.
