Rajanna Sircilla: Two Oggu Katha artistes died on the spot and another suffered a fracture on his leg, after their motorcycle rammed into another vehicle near Gambhiraopet mandal headquarters on Tuesday morning. The two Oggu katha artistes killed were Mucharla Devaiah of Chippalapalli and Gaddi Adavaiah of Namapur of Mustabad mandal.
Deceased Devaiah (40) and Adavaiah (52) along with another person Mallaiah went to Mustafanagar on Monday night to recite Oggu Katha in the village, in the house of a person where a death took place sometime ago. After completing performance, they were returning to their native villages on two vehicles.
When they reached Gambiraopet, the bike on which Devaiah and Adavaiah were traveling hit Mallaiah’s vehicle moving in front of them. After hitting the bike they fell some distance away from the spot.
While Devaiah and Adavaiah died on the spot, Mallaiah sustained a fracture on his leg.
After coming to know about the incident, police rushed the spot and shifted Mallaiah to hospital for treatment. Dead bodies were also shifted to Sircilla hospital for postmortem.
Organising an Oggu Katha recital during the funeral ceremonies is the tradition followed in Karimangar district. Oggu Katha is a traditional folk art, famous in Telangana.
