Hyderabad: Two natives of Madhya Pradesh were arrested by the Mailardevpally police for swapping ATM cards of people visiting ATM centres and withdrawing money using those cards.
The arrested persons were Ajay Sahu (24) and Vipin Kumar Sahu alas Dadu (21), both residents of Rajendranagar and natives of Madhya Pradesh. Their accomplice, Sanskar Pawar alias Bhaiyu (24), was absconding.
The three visited ATM centres and on the pretext of helping those not familiar with using ATM cards, stole their cards.
“They carried old cards with them and on the pretext of helping people withdraw cash, exchanged their cards with the original ones. They also asked for the PIN and later, using the cards of the victim, withdrew cash from other ATM centres,” Mailardevpally Inspector K Narsimha said.
On February 6, a person P. Balraj was duped by the gang when he went to an ATM at Katedan and based on his complaint, a case was booked. The gang was involved in four cases registered by the Mailardevpally police, who recovered 29 cards of various banks from them.
