Hyderabad: Two senior members of CPI (Maoist) surrendered before the Rachakonda Commissioner of Police on Thursday.

The duo, Kakarla Sunitha alias Badri, a senior State Committee Member, DK SZC, and Chennuri Harish alias Ramana, Area Committee Member Telangana State Committee, were involved in the movement for 40 years.

In 1985, Kakarla Sunitha, while studying intermediate in Rajahmundry, was attracted to the Radical Students Union. The next year, she became a member of the CPI (ML) and between 1986 and 1990, she worked as central organiser of CPI (ML) PW.

She was involved in various exchanges of fire with the security forces during her tenure, said Rachakonda Commissioner of Police G Sudheer Babu.

In 2006, while studying in BC Welfare Hostel at Eturnagaram, Chennuri Harish alias Ramana was attracted to the Maoist ideology. He worked in Telangana Praja Front until 2020, when he joined the CPI (Maoist).

He worked in different dalams in the party and participated in exchanges of fire at different places.

G Sudheer Babu said the surrender of senior Maoist leaders to join the social mainstream can be considered a success of the strategies adopted by the Telangana police.

“On behalf of the Telangana police, we appeal to underground Maoists to return to the mainstream of life. We urge Telangana Maoists to come back to their villages and contribute to the development of Telangana,” said the Rachakonda CP.
