Hyderabad: Two young men, who went for a swim in the check dam at Venkatapur Katwa in Moinabad drowned on Monday.
The two were identified as Pawan Kalyan (21), a driver and Vittalaiah (21), a housekeeping staffer of a farmhouse in Moinabad. Both were residents of Sajjanpally in Moinabad.
According to the police, the incident occurred when the duo along with a friend Anjaneyulu took a break from work and went to the check dam on Monday evening. On reaching the water body, the trio decided to get into the water. As Anjaneyulu knew swimming, he got into the water, swam for a while and came out. The other two, who did not know how to swim, too got into the water.
“Within a few minutes of stepping into the water, they started drowning as they did not know swimming. Anjaneyulu tried to rescue them, but could not,” police said. The Moinabad police along with the National Disaster Response Force teams had launched a rescue operation that went on late into the night but were unsuccessful. The search resumed on Tuesday and the two bodies were retrieved a few metres away from the accident spot, police said. The Moinabad police have registered a case.
