Two tribals booked for cultivating ganja crop, valued at Rs 38.5 lakh in Adilabad

Adilabad police seized 385 ganja plants worth Rs 38.50 lakh from a cotton field at Pottam Loddi village on Friday and booked two persons. Police said the accused were allegedly cultivating the crop on forest land following a tip-off.

Adilabad: Two tribal persons were booked on charges of cultivating ganja in their cotton field at Pottam Loddi village on Friday. Police seized 385 ganja plants, valued at Rs 38.50 lakh, from the field. Briefing details of the seizure to the media persons here, SP Akhil Mahajan said that a case had been booked against Mesram Gangaram Patel and Mesram Nagu in their six acres field. While Gangaram was reportedly found to be raising 315 plants, Nagu was allegedly cultivating 70 plants when police conducted raids on the field, following a tip-off. The two were using forest land in order to cultivate the crop.

Akhil noted that efforts were being made to eradicate the menace by laying a special focus on the masterminds who were encouraging the gullible tribals to venture into ganja cultivation. A search had been launched to nab the accused persons who were at large. He warned of stringent action against those who cultivate, smuggle and peddle the ganja. He said that they would recommend the government to stop welfare schemes to those who cultivate the crop. He commended Adilabad DSP L Jeevan Reddy, Rural Inspector Raheem Pasha and SI Vishnuvardhan for seizing the large number of plants.
