Hyderabad: Two inter-State woman drug peddlers were nabbed and 18 kg marijuana was seized from them by Rachakonda Special Operations Team in a joint operation with the Nacharam police here on Sunday.

The arrested women were identified as M Ratnam (35) and L Naga Venkata Krishnaveni (30), both labourers from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

According to the police, the women from Visakhapatnam agency area developed contact with the marijuana suppliers in their villages and planned to do drug peddling for easy money. They initially started supplying it to customers in their neighbouring villages.

Recently, after observing a huge demand for the psychotropic drug in the city, they started procuring the drug and sold it to customers in Hyderabad at higher rates, police said.

As per their plan, two days ago, the duo procured 18 kg of marijuana from their source in the agency area for about Rs 5,000 per kg and sold it to for Rs 10,000 per kg. They packed it into smaller bags for easy transportation.

“They transported the drug to Hyderabad in private bus. They stuffed the drug packets in traveling bags and concealed them under their seats in the bus posing as regular passengers,” police said.

Following a tip-off, the women got down the bus at Nacharam and were waiting for customers, where they were caught by the police. They were handed over to Nacharam police for further investigation.
