Hyderabad: Two women were allegedly stabbed to death by a relative following a family dispute at Meerpet on Wednesday. Another person, who was injured in the incident, was shifted to a private hospital for treatment.
The suspect, identified as Siddiqui, allegedly attacked his in-laws’ family with a knife, killing his mother-in-law, Niranjan B, and Reshma, the wife of his brother-in-law Yusuf, on the spot. Yusuf suffered injuries while attempting to save the victims.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shamshabad) B. Rajesh said the incident occurred between 4 pm and 5 pm. On receiving information, police rushed to the spot.
“We have learnt that Siddiqui had some family issues, following which he attacked three members of the family, killing two of them. The third person sustained injuries and was shifted to a private hospital for treatment,” the official said.
According to reports, the victims had approached Meerpet police earlier on Wednesday morning, expressing fears for their lives and seeking protection from Siddiqui. However, they returned home later. When Siddiqui arrived, an argument reportedly broke out, following which he attacked them with a sharp-edged weapon, killing the two women.
Siddiqui reportedly fled the scene after the incident. Meerpet police have launched a search to trace and apprehend him.
The bodies were shifted to the mortuary for a postmortem examination. A case has been registered, and special teams have been formed to apprehend Siddiqui.
