Nizamabad: Two labourers were buried alive after the protection wall of a nala collapsed during the ongoing underground drainage works near Railway Kaman in Nizamabad city on Monday. Police and fire department personnel removed the debris and retrieved the bodies after six hours of ordeal.

Roads and Buildings Department took up road construction work to provide access to the newly built Railway Underground Bridge near the Railway Kaman. Prior to this, the officials were laying underground drainage pipelines to replace the nala adjacent to the railway track. The contractor had dug up a deep pit for laying the pipelines and in the melee, the protection wall of the nala comprising stone and gravel collapsed.

Kishore (40) and Badal (24) got stuck under the debris, resulting in their instant death. The deceased belonged to Chandrapur district of Maharashtra.

The police registered a case and sent the bodies for postmortem. Officials informed the family members of the deceased and made arrangements for handing over the bodies to the bereaved families.
