Hyderabad: A two-year-old baby, Vagdevi from Bhongir, who had been suffering from severe seizures almost every day since the age of six months, has become seizure-free following advanced epilepsy surgery at Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad.

According to a press release, the child had been experiencing seizures despite being treated with multiple anti-seizure medications for nearly a year and also developed delays in speech, physical and cognitive development.

Scans revealed a small lesion in the left temporal region, close to the amygdala and hippocampus, which was identified as the likely cause of the seizures. A specialised paediatric neuro team jointly managed the case.

Dr N Varsha Monica Reddy, Senior Paediatric Neurologist, Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, said, “If seizures are not controlled with medications, parents should not delay in consulting epilepsy specialists.”

Dr R Ayyadurai, Senior Neurosurgeon, Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad, said, “An anterior temporal lobectomy was performed along with successful removal of the lesion, an area of abnormal tissue responsible for the seizures.”
