Unable to bear dowry harassment before wedding, girl ends life in Mancherial

Mancherial: An eighteen-year-old girl died, allegedly by suicide, as she was reportedly unable to bear dowry harassment of a youngster with whom she was supposed to get married. The incident took place at Shakhapelli village in Bellampalli mandal on Tuesday.
Tallagurijala Sub-Inspector Ch Ramesh said Jakkam Anjali, the daughter of Vimala and Shankar, resorted to the extreme step after being harassed by Yatakarla Raju, belonging to the same village, for a dowry of Rs.5 lakh.
Anjali and Raju were in a relationship for three years, and their marriage was finalized by the elders of their community.
However, Raju was reportedly torturing her seeking dowry for three months. He was also suspecting her fidelity for using a mobile phone. He reportedly also recently begin to beat and scold her, the SI said.
Based on a complaint received from Vimala, a case of abetment of suicide was registered against Raju. Investigation is on.
