Hyderabad: Uncertainty looms large over the conduct of various Common Entrance Tests (CETs) including the Telangana State Engineering, Agriculture and Medical Common Entrance Test (TS EAMCET) 2021 as per the schedule.
According to earlier announced schedule, the TS EAMCET is to be held from July 5 to 9 with AM on July 5 and 6 while the engineering test is on July 7, 8 and 9. Given the Covid-19 pandemic second wave-induced lockdown across the State, there now is uncertainty over this schedule.
This apart, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has already postponed the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main April and May sessions due to the pandemic and is yet to announce fresh dates. A large number of students from the State appear for the JEE Main and EAMCET. Any clash of dates of these two entrance tests will result in EAMCET being postponed by the State authorities.
“Conduct of CETs depends on the Covid-19 pandemic situation. If the cases come down and the State government gives permission, the CETs will be held. We will also have to look into dates of other national level exams. If they are clashing with our exams, we have to announce fresh dates,” said a senior official of the Telangana State Council of Higher Education.
The CETs are conducted in the computer-based test mode and getting slots will be a herculean task for State authorities as only one service provider has been extending the services for both national and state-level entrance exams.
According to the schedule, Engineering Common Entrance Test is scheduled to be conducted on July 1, Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test from June 19 to 22, Integrated Common Entrance Test on August 19 and 20, Law Common Entrance Test and PG Law Common Entrance Test on August 23, and Education Common Entrance Test on August 24 and 25.
Except for the ECET, the other entrance tests are linked to the final semester examinations of various undergraduate courses and they are unlikely to be held before completion of those exams. Meanwhile, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University-Hyderabad which is conducting the ECET 2021 on Tuesday extended the last date for online submission of application forms without late fee up to May 24.
