Hyderabad: Anger against the Telangana Congress government has once again spilled onto the streets, with a large number of unemployed youth staging a protest over the demand of increasing police job vacancies for recruitment, here on Wednesday.
Tension prevailed near Dilsukhnagar Metro Station as unemployed youth from the nearby libraries and hostels staged the protest on the main road.
The protesters demanded the State government increase police job vacancies from 5,000 to 20,000 posts and accordingly release the recruitment notifications. They argued that notifications for 5,000 police posts would not be sufficient for the youth who have been waiting for long.
As there have been no police recruitment notifications for a long time, the unemployed said several candidates exceeded their upper-age limit. They wanted the government to raise the upper age relaxation for uniformed services to 36 years
“Earlier during the assembly elections campaign, citing the Biswal committee report, Congress leaders said there are 30,000 vacancies in the police department. We want the government to release notification for 20,000 vacancies. If the government goes ahead with 5,000 vacancies, we will hold a million march from Dilsukhnagar to DGP’s office,” a protester said.
Meanwhile, the traffic on one of the busiest roads of the city went haywire due to the protest. As the demonstration continued, police swung into action and detained several unemployed youth.
