Adilabad: An unidentified person was booked for allegedly transporting oxen and cows from Nagpur to a slaughter house in Hyderabad, without obtaining relevant permission at Gandhinagar in Echoda mandal centre on Saturday. Police seized a van, 42 oxen and 10 cows.
Police said that the known driver of the van fled the spot when police intercepted the vehicle transporting the cattle to a slaughter house. They rescued the oxen and cows cramped in the van and shifted them to a shed. A case was registered against the driver of the van and investigations were taken up.
Locals and activists of cattle protection say that traders illegally transport the cattle from different parts of Maharashtra and Telangana to Hyderabad to make a fast buck. The traders are able to indulge the offence by reportedly bribing officials at check-posts. The activists alleged that healthy cows were also being shifted to slaughter houses, ending their population and affecting the agriculture sector.
