Karimnagar: BC Welfare and Civil Supplies Minister Gangula Kamalakar alleged that the Central government was conspiring to force farmers to distress sale paddy to big industrialists Adani and Ambani. The Union government was planning to abolish the paddy procurement system completely by denying paddy purchases where corporate companies would directly approach farmers to purchase the crop.
Since the government would not be involved in the process, private persons would dictate terms and purchase crops from farmers according to their wish, he said. “It is the responsibility of the Union government to procure each and every crop produced by the farmers across the country. But the Centre is running away from its responsibility. However, TRS would not allow the Union government to escape from its responsibility and continue agitation till the latter revokes its decision and procured paddy,” he said.
Participating in the Rythu Maha Dharna held in Karimnagar on Friday, Kamalakar said if the Union government refuses to purchase paddy, the TRS would stage a dharna in front of Union Minister Piyush Goyal’s residence. He appealed to farmers to grill BJP leaders in rural areas on the Centre’s anti-farmers policies.
He demanded that BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar and Union Minister G Kishan Reddy should take the responsibility of purchasing crop by the Central government. Otherwise, TRS activists along with farmers would stage dharnas in front of their houses. The protests were held against the Union government’s decision not to procure paddy in Yasangi season.
The Civil Supplies Minister said though the TRS was ruling in the State, the party had to take an agitation path in the best interests of farmers as the Central government was creating a lot of troubles. “Farmers in the State were gradually receiving benefits with the implementation of various welfare schemes such as uninterrupted power supply, irrigation water supply, Rythu Bandhu, Rythu Bima and other support. Unable to digest it, the BJP-led Union government is deliberately creating troubles for farmers by denying the procurement of paddy,” he alleged.
He recalled that when he along with Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao met Union Minister Piyush Goyal in Delhi in September, the latter had refused to procure boiled rice from the State claiming that the Centre had enough stocks for four years. Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao had also questioned the Union government on the issue, but received no response, he stated.
Later, the Minister along with other TRS leaders travelled in a bullock cart to give representation to Additional Collector GV Shyamprasad Lal.
