Hyderabad: In a move to foster inclusivity and safeguard student rights, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Friday appointed an anti-discrimination officer.

Jai Prakash Gautam, a professor with School of Engineering Science and Technology, has been given charge as anti-discrimination officer for a period of three years. He is tasked with receiving complaints about discrimination or harassment in writing from students or parent of students irrespective of whether the discrimination or harassment is alleged to have taken place within or outside the institution.

In case of students, the office should submit the report, along with recommendations, to the University for taking appropriate action. In the case of teachers and non-teaching staff, the officer should submit the inquiry to the university competent authority who will initiate an action as per UGC rules and regulations.
