Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad Students Union has called for a protest on Thursday over inordinate delay by the State government in releasing pending scholarships. Students have decided to burn an effigy of the government as part of their protest at the university main gate in the evening.
As per students union, inordinate delay in releasing scholarships was causing immense hardships to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, particularly those from BC, SC and ST categories.
The students union said several attempts by the previous and present union members regarding release of scholarships did not yield positive results. “Despite all the efforts of the Union, the government chose to be non-responsive and adamant,” it said
“It is unacceptable that the BC category students have not received their scholarships for the three consecutive years, while the SC and ST students have been waiting for two years. This has resulted in students struggling to pay their mess fees, while outgoing students are worried about clearing their dues to obtain their certificates,” the union said.
