Hyderabad: The University of Hyderabad (UoH) Students Union condemned the statement of Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday insisting the lands at Kancha Gachibowli had no connection to the UoH.

Speaking to Telangana Today, Students Union president Umesh Ambedkar said being in a responsible position, Revanth Reddy instead of protecting the biodiversity and green cover on the university campus, has put up the university lands for auction.

Umesh also took objection to the Chief Minister’s comment ‘there were no tigers or deer in the area but some cunning foxes were trying to obstruct the development’ in the Assembly today and said the student community on the campus strongly condemned it.

“Despite the university being given 2,300 acres of land, the ownership has not been handed over to the varsity. Tomorrow again, they will try to auction another 500 acres of land. We will fight out. We will soon raise the issue with the Ministry of Education as well,” he said.

UoH Dalit Students Union president T Ramesh said it was sad to hear such sweeping comments by the Chief Minister on students who were trying to protect the university land for future generations.

In the past the then Andhra Pradesh government had allocated the university land to IMG Bharata, he said, adding that instead of returning the land to university the government put it up for auction.

“Buffalo and Peacock lakes on the campus are catchment areas. If construction works are taken up, the lakes will go dry, affecting the biodiversity in the area,” he added.
