Unlock: Police to enforce Covid-appropriate behaviour in Hyderabad
As the government had allowed full occupancies in schools, hotels, bars and other public places, the police are expecting there will be an increase in footfall and large gatherings
Hyderabad: With the government deciding to lift the lockdown and night curfew starting Sunday, the city police who until now strictly enforced the lockdown guidelines will continue to keep a check on Covid appropriate behavior among citizens. In all the three police commissionerates — Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda — over 600 police check posts were setup with thousands of police personnel on ground ever since the lockdown was announced on May 12.
As the government had allowed full occupancies in schools, hotels, bars and other public places, the police are expecting there will be an increase in footfall and large gatherings. “For ensuring Covid appropriate behaviour like wearing mask and maintaining social distance in public places, enforcement will continue,” said Mahesh Bhagwat, Police Commissioner, Rachakonda.
With this, teams of police personnel will be on the job to detect those not wearing masks and also those who are not wearing them properly. Similarly, the Traffic Police will book cases for violation after taking photographs of the violators. The violations will be checked from the Command and Control Centre as well.
“Though the cases have come down and the positivity rate too has declined, the threat is still there. Even after the lockdown is lifted and all activities are reopened, a check on Covid appropriate behaviour needs to be kept,” said Anjani Kumar, Police Commissioner, Hyderabad.
Police in the neighbouring Cyberabad Commissionerates too have issued instructions to different wings including the Law and Order and the Traffic Police to register cases against violators.
