Hyderabad: Malayalam actor Unni Mukundan has firmly denied allegations made against him in a recent police complaint, calling the charges “false, fabricated, and part of a targeted smear campaign”.
The actor responded after Vipin Kumar, who claimed to be his professional manager, accused him of physical assault and criminal intimidation.
Breaking the silence, Unni clarified on his social media platforms that Vipin Kumar was never officially hired as his personal manager. “He introduced himself in 2018 as a PRO associated with others in the industry, but I never appointed him in any official capacity,” the actor explained.
Unni further said that issues with Vipin began during the production of his latest film ‘Marco’, when the latter allegedly had a public dispute with a team member from Obscura Entertainments. The actor claimed that Vipin sought full credit for the film, a demand Unni found unethical and unjustified. He also revealed that multiple filmmakers had complained to him about Vipin’s alleged gossiping and unprofessional behaviour.
“He apologized to me in person in the presence of a common friend, but never followed it up in writing despite repeated requests,” Unni said, adding that shortly after, “false and alarming allegations” began surfacing online. The actor maintained that no physical confrontation ever occurred and stressed that the place where the incident allegedly happened is under CCTV surveillance. “Please check the footage before forming conclusions,” he said.
Unni also alleged that Vipin had misused access to his personal data and had been interfering in his professional relationships. “He even went as far as contacting a female actress on my behalf, asking her to marry me, something that led to a serious personal conflict,” the actor stated.
Despite the severity of the claims made against him, Unni’s response has remained measured and focused on facts. His version also raises questions about the timing and motive behind the complaint, especially as it follows the success of Marco and comes at a time when the actor has multiple projects lined up.
Background: The complaint
According to police, Vipin Kumar filed a complaint on Monday, May 26, alleging that Unni slapped him in the basement parking area of an apartment complex in Kakkanad, Kochi, for reviewing a film starring another actor. He also alleged that the actor verbally abused and threatened him.
Police have booked Mukundan under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 296(b) (obscene acts and songs), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), and others. An FIR has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
While the case continues, Unni’s calm and consistent version of events, paired with his willingness to cooperate with the investigation, suggests there may be more to the story than what the complaint alone reveals.
