Hyderabad: Irregularities allegedly committed by Palakurthy MLA Yashaswini Reddy’s mother-in-law Jhansi Reddy were brought to light by Congress leaders from the constituency, who demanded that the party leadership initiate stern action against her, stating that such steps were necessary to protect the party’s interests.

A delegation from the Palakurthy constituency, led by Thorrur market chairman Tirupati Reddy and PAC chairman K Hari Prasad, met AICC in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan here on Thursday.

During the meeting, the leaders explained the alleged irregularities being committed by Jhansi Reddy. They charged that both the Palakurthy MLA and Jhansi Reddy were neglecting the constituency, and said their behaviour towards the people was unacceptable.

Owing to this attitude, several Congress-backed sarpanches had lost the recent elections, they alleged, adding that the party was steadily losing ground in Palakurthy. “In the Assembly elections, the Congress secured a majority of 47,000 votes, but in the panchayat elections, the BRS secured a majority of 2,000 votes,” Tirupati Reddy said while speaking to media persons.

He alleged that in the name of canal works, Jhansi Reddy had drawn between Rs.40 lakh and Rs.50 lakh from MP funds, but details of the works executed using those funds were not disclosed to the people of the constituency. Generally, whenever MP funds are released, details of the works are shared with the constituency, he said. However, neither Yashaswini Reddy nor Jhansi Reddy were sharing such information. Soon after the panchayat elections, both of them flew to America, he alleged.

The leaders also alleged that Jhansi Reddy deceived the Congress high command and secured the vice-president post. “She does not have Indian citizenship and the same has been brought to the notice of the AICC leader and TPCC leadership,” they said.
