Hyderabad: Several parts of Hyderabad were hit by intense, unseasonal thunderstorms on Monday evening, leading to waterlogging and significant traffic disruptions across the city. The showers, triggered by a low-pressure area over Bay of Bengal, brought city traffic to a grinding halt, causing major traffic jams at key junctions during the evening rush hour.

The Hyderabad Traffic Police issued specific warnings regarding significant waterlogging at Pillar No 264 near Flipkart on the stretch heading towards Attapur.

Teams from HYDRAA and Rajendranagar municipal authorities informed that they were on-site, clearing the drainage blockages to ensure vehicular movement.

Adding to the commuters’ misery, a collision between a car and a bus occurred between NMDC and PVNR flyover at Mehdipatnam. The accident caused a massive traffic jam, with the Hyderabad traffic police reporting slow vehicular movement across the entire stretch and urging motorists to exercise caution.

Intense thunderstorms along with heavy downpour were reported in Vikarabad area and later at Attapur, Rajendranagar, and Bandlaguda Jagir. The storm system is also expected to further cover the Old City areas, including Charminar, Bahadurpura, Balapur, Kishanbagh, Chandrayangutta, and Barkas.

In addition to the heavy storm cells, scattered moderate rains and thunderstorms are forecasted for Shaikpet, Tolichowki, and Nampally. Some of the regions that received maximum rainfall (based on rainfall data from TSDPS) include Hayathnagar (17.5 mm), Bahadurpura (14.5 mm), Rajenderanagar, Attapur (13.5 mm), and EKTA colony in Rajendranagar (12 mm).
